A Place of Care, Comfort, and Connection: John James Village
The Foundation is proud to stand alongside the Leukaemia Foundation as one of our major long-term partners in delivering essential care through John James Village as a sanctuary for individuals and families facing the immense challenges of blood cancer.
Our involvement with John James Village began with a shared vision: to co-design and build a purpose-built accommodation precinct where patients from across the region could stay close to their treating hospital while surrounded by family and community. That early partnership with the Leukaemia Foundation and the creation of the Village marked a significant milestone in patient-centred care in the ACT.
But our commitment didn’t end with the construction of the Village. We are honoured to continue supporting this vital service through a long-term funding commitment that helps sustain day-to-day operations, maintenance, and the compassionate support offered to every person who walks through its doors. This enduring partnership reflects our belief that support during illness must be ongoing, not just structural and that dignity, comfort, and connection are essential parts of healthcare.
For people undergoing treatment, especially those travelling from rural and regional areas, the Village offers more than a place to stay. It relieves the stress of long-distance travel and removes the financial and emotional burden of finding accommodation during what is often the most vulnerable time in their lives. Being close to loved ones and care providers allows patients to focus on healing, while also providing carers with space, community, and support.
Families often tell us how much the Village has meant to them. From the thoughtfully designed units to the tranquil sensory gardens and the warm welcome from staff, every detail is designed to foster wellbeing. The Village allows people to maintain a sense of normality and dignity at a time when everything else may feel uncertain.
We’ve seen firsthand how this kind of environment can transform the experience of treatment. It creates space for hope, promotes rest and recovery, and reminds families that they are not alone. Whether sitting in a quiet garden, sharing a meal, or simply knowing they’re close to hospital care, residents of John James Village are embraced by a community that cares.
We are proud to continue supporting the Leukaemia Foundation through this enduring partnership. Together, we are ensuring that John James Village remains a place of sanctuary not only now, but for every family who may need it in the future.
