Leukaemia Foundation
The John James Village in Garran stands as a purpose-built, $7 million respite accommodation facility, developed by the John James Foundation in partnership with the Leukaemia Foundation.
Opened in 2016, it was the first of its kind in Canberra, offering free, high-quality accommodation to blood cancer patients and their families during treatment.
Comprising six fully self-contained residential units and shared communal amenities, the Village was designed to provide a calm, private, and supportive environment for those undergoing intensive treatment far from home. Its thoughtful design enables the Leukaemia Foundation to deliver critical services—emotional support, stability, and a sense of normalcy—at a time when families need it most.
More than just a building, John James Village is a vital piece of health infrastructure. A recent social and economic impact study shows that for every $1 invested in the project, $7 of value is returned to patients, families, and the broader healthcare system.
This flagship project represents the Foundation’s vision to build lasting, meaningful assets that directly enable charities to serve the community with dignity and care.
